Update from Rohan & Roshan (kidney patients)

Rohan had called me couple of weeks back to thank us for the help that we did and also mentioned that both Rohan and Roshan have  registered for kidney transplantation.  It's going to take some time before they find a matching donor. Currently each of them are undergoing dialysis twice a week !!  I have requested him to let us know once they find a matching donor. He has requested us to continue to remember them in our prayers.

More details about Rohan & Roshan - http://tinyinitiative.blogspot.in/2017/03/financial-help-for-kidney.html

It simply can't get any better.... !!

It just can't get any better... !!!!  Last Saturday,  4-6  kids in our apartment including Joe & Tony (Prajval, Mithil, Vasisht and Sanvi were the others) had conducted a food fest sort of thing in our basement. They called it "Chillar party" or something like that...They do that every vacation to make some extra pocket money. They made bhel puri, lime juice , bhajji  etc and also conducted some games. They sell these for 5-10 bucks and the profit they finally made was only around 400-500 Rs. Last year, it was much bigger and they had divided the profit among themselves. I was under the impression that they are doing the same thing this year as well.

A thank you note from Snehadaan (Sneha Care Home)

Couple of hours with the children @ Snehadaan (Sneha Care Home)

Last Saturday (March 25, 2017), we bought all the items for school kits (notebooks, coloring books, geometry boxes, pencils, pens, erasers, sharpeners, crayons, pencil boxes, sketch pens, rulers etc)  required for one academic year for each of the 83 kids @ Snehadaan and handed it over to the children.  All the children in the Bangalore center are aged between 6 years and 12 years, and we got the items according to the age group. Initially we thought of creating separate kit for each kid, but then ditched that idea as shopping itself took little more than 4 hours !! We got good discounts as we bought it in bulk from Metro.

We have raised 1 Lakh for this cause  (50 K from our account and 50K from Shyju's group) and they have confirmed that the money has been credited to their account.  You can find the initial details about this case here:-  http://tinyinitiative.blogspot.in/2017/02/rohan-roshan-mysore-financial-help-for.html

Orphanage/old age home @ Bannerghatta road

We visited a old age home/orphanage (bala yesu bhavan) from our church last Sunday and I'm trying to explore and see how we can help them further....We got the idea of school kits (that we gave to kids at snehadaan)  from this visit only...... I will keep you posted on this....

Here's some pics/video from that visit....

School kits for the 83 kids living with HIV @ Snehadaan (Sneha Care Home)

Dears,
Fr Jaison from Snehadhan has agreed for the proposal that we had put forward for helping the kids there.  We will buy 83 school kits (bag, books, pencil, pen, eraser etc) for the next academic year. Each kit will be worth 500 Rs (Approx). Thought it's a better idea than giving them money.
We are doing something similar for an Orphanage on Bannerghatta road from our church next week. We have few guys in church who has the Metro membership, so that we can purchase in bulk for a good deal.  I'm planning to purchase these 83 kits also along with that purchase and hand those over to Snehadhan next week itself.  Hope Bangalore guys (Sreeju, Jithu , Prasad) can me join me.
Please see the mail from Fr Jaison below:

Snehadaan | Financial support for HIV infected kids (Sneha Care Home)

Further to what I mentioned about Snehadaan in the earlier post,  we also discussed with them about the possibility of sponsoring a kid or may be buying them grocery for a week/month etc.  He said they normally buy in bulk from Yeswanthpur and he said we can either buy groceries and give it to them or we can give them the money and they will buy it in bulk.

He has not told anything clearly about sponsoring a particular kid. I will follow up with him on that and update this post once I get that information.

In the mean time, request you to go through the below write-up about Snehadaan and let us decide whether we should get involved.

Snehadaan | Support for solar water heating installation (Sneha Care Home)

Snehadaan is a center for providing Care and Support to the PLHIV (Kids Living with HIV) and training of health care personnel in the HIV/ AIDS care field. They are taking care of around 80+ kids in the Bangalore location itself.

They also provides care, treatment & support for the sick, especially the marginalized sick.

It's situated near Carmelaram (Bangalore).

I came to know about them couple of years back when they came to our Church for fund raising by selling the candles made by the HIV infected children. I had helped them in my personal capacity at that point of time.

We visited Snehadaan last Sunday (Feb 26, 2017).  We visited both palliative care and also saw the kids there. These kids are all HIV infected, and most of them don't have parents or/are rejected from the community. Kids in this location are from different parts of Karnataka and Tamilnadu.  They are doing an excellent job in taking care of them, giving value education and in skill development.

Rohan & Roshan (Mysore) | Financial help for dialysis & kidney transplantation

Dear Anto,

How are you? Hope everything goes fine there.

I would like to bring a family to your kind attention which I happened to hear long back. I take my full freedom to report to you because you and your companions are ever ready to dole out charity from your generous heart. Therefore, I thought of reporting the matter to you here.

This family consists of  mother and three children. Father was the bread earner of the family, who was working in B.S.N.L. He died due to heart attack. Unfortunately,  all the children are suffering from kidney failure. Among two of them lost their both the kidneys and are in need of immediate action of transplanting them at the earliest which demands a huge amount.

School Fee for 9th standard girl (Chandana) - Jan 08, 2017

I Met Sr Rosemary @ Mysore yesterday and she conveyed that the girl (Chandana) that we helped last year is doing exceedingly well in her studies and other extra curricular activities.  As we discussed last year, I have promised Sr that we will pay her fee next academic year (2017-2018)  as well.

Last year the it  was around Rs 28,500  (school fee + uniform + books etc) and this year it will be slightly more (may be little more than 30K)

Navaz | Additionall help through MicroCharity

Hello Antony,

Sorry for delayed response... i saw this in mobile and missed to respond it later :( Sorry about that!!!

Let me forward this to the team and try for a provisional approval then you can get the application form filled. We usually help Rs 75,000 to 1 Lakh for similar cases.
If approved, we can commit that amount to the family. Once they are ready with donor and all approvals come through ( its a loooong process, believe me.. .we had even waited for 6-9 month for one case) , we will go live, we need 2 weeks notice to raise this amount.

Thanks,

Jisso

Baby Antonietta | Bought Home Oxygen equipment and handed it over to her family

Dears,

Yesterday (25th Aug), Jisso and I bought the home oxygen equipment (Philips EverFlo Home Oxygen System), went to baby Antonietta''s house (near Karmalaram, Sarjarpur road ) and handed over the equipment to her parents.

The shop owner (Breath Well Medical Systems)  has given the full assurance of their support in case there are any issues.  They replaced the rented equipment and fitted the one that we gave. The cost of the equipment is 47,000 /- INR. It has a warranty for 3 years.

Supporting Baby Antonietta to buy a Home Oxygen support machine

Dears,

Jisso is my friend (we go to the same church). When I came to know about a similar initiative that he and his friends are doing, I had told him about our initiative and I had requested  him to inform about genuine cases.

They have already raised 1 lakh for Baby Antonietta  and now they need another 53K to buy a medical equipment. Please see the mail below and the link for more details.  I can 100 % guarantee that it's a genuine case and  I will go personally to hand over the amount/equipment in case we decide to go ahead with this.

I have uploaded the equipment details and quote for the same to google drive.  Here's the link for that

Dear Anto,

As we have discussed earlier, we the Sisters made a survey of our locality. We happened to talk with a girl who was studying a few kilometers away from her home. Her name is Chandana. She is promoted to 8th Class with II nd rank. She is very studious and also very good in co-curricular activities.

When we spoke to her mother about her studies she opined that it is difficult for them to send her for her high school studies.

Her father is working as a sweeper in a hospital. She does not go for work due to her ill-health. At present father and mother are separated. So we thought of admitting her in our School as you suggested.

Please check with your group and let me know your thoughts.  Awaiting to get a favorable reply from you here.  I am sending the details of the fee structure of our School for a student in STD.VIII.

Tuition Fee: Rs.13800/-
Furniture: Rs.1500/-
Computer: Rs.900/-
Miscellaneous: Rs.850/-
Activity Fee: Rs.650/-
Lab & Library: Rs.700/-
Smart Class: Rs.1200/-
CCA:Rs.1400/-
Books: Rs.4570/-
Uniform: Rs.2950/-
--------------------------------
Total- Rs.28520/-

As you know, Since our school is located in a village, there is no bus available for the students to reach the school. Hence, the students come to our school either by bus, van or other private vehicles.  The school bus fee is Rs.9900/. As you mentioned, I will check with her mother whether she can pay this and we will consider giving a concession.  As I mentioned, we have waived off the admission fees (Rs, 10,000) for this girl.

May God bless you and your friends for all such undertakings !

Two cases that group approved - Don't remember whether we helped

Hi All,

There are two potential cases which I have come across recently , one was brought by Kurian and other through my friend

Kurian’s case :  A 10th standard student who is suffering from cancer and have had to remove one of her legs as part of treatment.  She belongs to a poor family and her mother works in different houses to make their leaving . I think the gir’s father had left them and married someone long ago. Kurian know this case as her mother used to work at his house too. The help they are looking is to fix a temporary leg for the girl.

Sr Rosemary had called me on Saturday and she was talking about a 3 year old girl who is suffering from lung cancer. It was detected only on Saturday and they have already spent around 2 lakhs before even diagnosing the disease. She’s actually in a critical condition now and she has to undergo 19 chemotherapy. Each of that will cost around 25K. From what I understood, the doctors have not confirmed that this can be cured. They are from Kannur (Nellikutty) and her father is a sales person in some electronics shop.

What we have collected so far is around 25K and I told that we are willing to pay that towards the treatment. I’ve already discussed this with sreeju, jithu and Nirmal and they are okay with that.

Sr called me this morning and given me the account details. I’m planning to send the cheque tomorrow. Please let me know if any of you have any concerns/suggestions.

Also, we need to decide how can we take this forward as our balance has already come to nil. L  I’m going to put 1000 rs per month from now on towards this initiative and probably we can add few more guys/gals to this group. And how about calling this initiative‘Santhwanam’ or some thing like that…

It’s really heartening to see all the responses. We have already sent the first cheque of 25K to Sr RoseMary. Will keep you updated on that.

I would like to introduce Shibil and Bijesh to this group. Both of them are working with me at MindTree and I think they are of the same wave lengthJ. They are really exited about the whole stuff. I told about this initiative to them on Monday. Bijesh created a presentation and we even had a brain storming session on the same day. Now, we should have similar meetings/sessions with the entire team. I’m attaching the presentation along with this mail.

That makes us a group of 10. Let’s not add any more people to the core group.

Koottukarae,

I’m sure most of us have been thinking about giving something back to the society. So here’s an opportunity.

I have told many times about the ‘Sister’ who taught me in the school. She (Sr Rose Mary) was here in Bangalore a month back and that time I had discussed about this idea with her. She agreed immediately and she told she’ll let me know if she finds any genuine cases. She called me up this morning and she was talking to me about two cases.

Before going in to detail about the cases, I would like to know your thoughts on this initiative. If we decide to help, I don’t think we should stop with this. My idea is to form a core group and we can start accumulating some money on a monthly/quarterly/yearly basis and help the needy once we come to know about the same through reliable sources. You’ll never know, this can really grow big also. I’m very much serious about this.

I’ve talked about this to my friend Prasad and he’s really enthusiastic about this. I’ve copied him on this mail. He told he can get all his friends to join us. But I’ve told him to wait as I want to form a core group whom we really know and who really wants to help and then build on it.

Let the ideas flow inJ!!

Sasneham,
Pulicken.

I strongly agree with you. To start with, why dont we form an online group, may be yahoo groups. The membership will be strictly after confirmation by the core group, so that it wont become a junk group. Simultaneously we can start building the site also.

I'm happy people are really taking it serious and taking it into new heights. Keep up ur spirit guys....

Subject: RE: A Different Initiative !!

Hi guys,

As per discussions with our team members regarding the direction in which we can move forward in our initiative I had a talk with my legal guys. So they have advised me that if you have a activity of accumulating a fund for any purpose it is advisable to form an entity, ie in our case a charitable organization which can be registered or unregistered and do all the transactions through that. It will be better if we make a decision right now if we have strong plans to take this initiative to next level. Of course it definitely requires some devotion of TIME & ENERGY to make all this possible from all individuals.

Why should we do this????
If we are transferring the fund to an individuals account (like our present case in which we may transfer to 3 yr old girls account) it doesn’t create any problem for us or for the person receiving it. It can be given from the individuals ( pulickens) account from which it is collected. We can still continue with that. But once puli’s accounts start receiving funds or certain amounts continuously from us on a monthly basis it can create probs for Pulicken.

What should be done??

Have discussions from all the members involved currently.
Take all their views.
Find a name.
Set a clear goal and be specific on our aims.

Then??

Now we need to give written application for registration.
Open a bank account
Prepare a MOU. (Format enclosed)

All the details on formation of charitable trust are clearly mentioned in the attached pdf. Please go through this in your free time. Don’t think that there is looott of formalities by seeing the doc..It is a very detailed doc.. We can get most of the things done by some firm. I am still in discussions with people to know whether we should immediately go for a charitable trust or start and maintain an account without an entity being registered. Will let you know in detail later..

So please send your views.
