Further to what I mentioned about Snehadaan in the earlier post, we also discussed with them about the possibility of sponsoring a kid or may be buying them grocery for a week/month etc. He said they normally buy in bulk from Yeswanthpur and he said we can either buy groceries and give it to them or we can give them the money and they will buy it in bulk.
He has not told anything clearly about sponsoring a particular kid. I will follow up with him on that and update this post once I get that information.
In the mean time, request you to go through the below write-up about Snehadaan and let us decide whether we should get involved.
As I mentioned in the earlier post, they definitely need help and I think we should start getting involved in a small way to start with. We can decide to continue on a regular basis once we get a better understanding about how it's run.

SNEHA CARE HOME
Sneha Care Home (SCH), a ‘home away from home’ for the HIV infected children was started in July 2008 with the aim of building responsible adults through value education and aptitude-based skill development. Most of these children have lost their parents or parent and their normal growth and development seem to be impossible in their home or community. Now the centre takes care of ninety six children. Shining Star School is the residential school in our campus where using the National Open School Curriculum we provide education to our children. With the aim of improving the talents and aptitude of children we also provide them training on painting, music, dance, athletics and various sports and games. Thus the model is evolved to meet the long term needs of child hood development, adolescent issues, personality development, need - based education, value system to sustain them for life, employment, family and community acceptance etc. Presently there are 83 children living with HIV (CLHIV) in Sneha Care Home
The programme has two Phases: the pre adolescent phase and the adolescent phase. The pre adolescent phase is being held in our campus and the adolescent phase is in Snehagram, sixty kilometres away from Sneha Care Home, at KrishnaGiri District which is focussed on providing vocational training to children living with HIV.
In the pre-adolescent phase, children are provided with a caring and loving environment-‘making a home away from home’ to grow and develop. The phase focuses more on building confidence and self esteem and in preparing them for handling their adulthood responsibly. The major features of this phase are:

THE MAJOR HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROGRAMME
The individual need based academic programme
At Sneha Care Home children have an individualized learning opportunity and are facilitated to learn things apt for their individual aptitude and intelligence. Therefore our Academic programme is a blend of academics, Value Education and co-curricular activities. The motto of our Academic Programme is ‘educate ad vitem’ or ‘educate for life’.
We teach them three languages, English, Kannada and Hindi as well as Science, mathematics and social sciences. National Institute of Open Schooling system (NIOS) is followed for continuing education.
Assessments are conducted every three months along with weekly tests. The children’s performance and the teaching methodology are assessed during this time and strategic changes are made accordingly.
‘Living Value Education programme’ is followed for value education. We choose a value for the month and weekly sub values. We discuss with children about these values and conduct activities to teach them about these values.
As part of the academic programme, we have also introduced projects, a process of comprehensively learning about a concept or phenomenon, through instructions, group activities, observations and other diverse activities. This programme also aims to improve the general knowledge of the children. Thirdly, it focuses on building group dynamism and strengthening teacher-student relationships by working together.
Integration of co-curricular activities along with education is another feature of our education programme. Based on individual aptitude and interest, we provide our children with computer training, music, art, dance classes, and sports. We also provide them with platforms to showcase their talents through organizing monthly arts and sports week, monthly birthday celebrations and special day celebrations. In the activity department there are three clubs: the green club takes care of the vegetation in the campus; the flower club takes care of the flower garden; the pet club takes care of the pet animals. Children are grouped into four houses and they participate in various activities and take part in competitions representing these houses.
Family Integration
We believe in the principle that all our children should also enjoy care and support from the family. So, we have a primary care giver and a secondary care giver for all of our children, who visit them and with whom we send them for holidays twice a year.
Our efforts to connect all the children to their families, relatives, extended family members and community at large has become a successful endeavour. These gatherings paved the way for creating a bond and building rapport between Sneha Care Home team and the families, to ensure that we share a mutual and collective responsibility for the welfare and healthy growth of our children. During these occasions we collect feedbacks from the care givers.
Sneha care home organized the family gathering on 10th April about 89 of the
children’s family member were part of the family gathering. In the meeting the

Kolar Outreach programme for CLHIV in the community
With the aim of replicating some of our learning and experiences in the community setting we began the Kolar Community Outreach Programme for the children infected and affected by HIV. The goal of this attempt was to enhance the quality of life of these children by making basic services available for them and preparing them for a productive life. Another important aim we had while launching this programme was making every effort to address their traumas, build their self esteem and confidence, recognise their aptitude and develop their skills based on the aptitude, and make them capable of living independently. We wanted to link them to all the resources and government schemes available for them (including Children Affected by AIDS) in the community and make sure these schemes were reaching these children. Last year the camp was conducted from 27th to 30th April, 2016. Health assessments, psycho-social assessments, adolescent guidance sessions, disclosure sessions and entertainment activities were conducted for the 35 participants.
Sneha Care Home as part of its outreach initiative conducted a camp for
children living with HIV/AIDS from the district of Kolar on 27
th
to 30th April
2016. The primary aim of this camp was to conduct a comprehensive
assessment to find out the clinical, psychological, social, educational and family
related needs of these children and thereby to carry out apt interventions in this
regard. The camp was organized at Christy Girls Home, Kolar. The camp was
inaugurated by Fr.Sunil MI.
We conducted various health assessments, psycho-soccial assessments,
adolescent guidance sessions and disclosure sessions and fun and entertainment
activities. At the end of the camp the children organized a cultural programme.
We also distributed medicines and school stationery for the children at the end
of the camp. Thirty five children attended the camp
Health Care Management
Health Care Management of children is another prime area of focus in Sneha Care Home. Through health care management we focus on promotive and preventive healthcare of children. The comprehensive nutritional support program of the centre has made remarkable improvement in the health status of our children who were earlier malnourished and consequently suffered from frequent opportunistic infections. In addition to that, we are assisted by St. John’s Paediatric department, especially, HIV paediatric clinic to effectively manage clinical care of the children.
Children enjoy good health through these interventions and through these efforts; we could mitigate the number of hospital admissions.
Psycho-social care
The Psycho-social department of Sneha Care Home endeavours in relieving children from their traumas and sorting out their behavioural issues and helping them to grow up with good self image and self confidence. We try to achieve these things through individual and group counselling, peer group interventions, life skill education, motivational classes and disclosure. In order to assess the behavioural issues of the children the department conducts assessments with the help of ‘strength and difficult questionnaire’.
They definitely need help and I think we should start getting involved in a small way to start with. We can decide to continue on a regular basis once we get a better understanding about how it's run.
