Fund raising request | Solar water heater for Trithwa Ashram (Akashaparavakal)

Current solar water heater that is installed at Trithwa Ashram is of minimum capacity and its enough for only 6-8 inmates. As the winter is slowly setting in Bangalore, they have requested for Solar water heater that can be used by 40 inmates.



I checked with few vendors and what they are suggesting is to for for the ones with minimum capacity of 1000 LPD (Liters per day). According to them each individual will need an average of 20 L to bath and hence we will actually need 1600 LPD. Their suggestion is to go for 2 heaters with 500 LPD each. The starting price for one 500 LPD is around 40,000 Rs (Vendor name - Supreme).

So, we will need to raise around 80-85k (two 500 LPD solar water heaters,  transportation, plumbing, fixing etc).

I will attach the quote from one of the vendor once I receive from them.

    Thanks for the response Shyju, Mathai and Sherin.  We will go ahead and sponsor one 500 LPD Solar water heater (40-45K).  I'm working with couple of vendors to get it done. Will keep you posted once I get more details  from them.

    Here's the updates. I got couple of vendors to do a site visit and what they told is they have space only for one more 500 LPD (tube type). Both vendors (Supreme Solar and Kamati Solar) initially quoted around 50K and they have come down to 40K. There will be additional charges required for plumbing materials and labour charges (max 2-5k). So, total will be around 45 K. I'm planning to go with Kamati as I got his reference through my colleague and hence we will get better support after installation in case of any issues.

    Existing 300 LPD solar heater was not working since last 6 months and I got it serviced and it has started working now. So, once this is installed , they will have total of 800 LPD (Liters Per Day) and they have to manage with that. Understanding of how it functions and the usage pattern is very important to get the maximum benefit. Based on the inputs that we got from both the vendors, we have shared some suggestions/tips to the folks at Ashram.
