Maniyarankudy Rehabilitation Support | List of affected families

I had multiple discussions with Jinesh and it looks like first priority for the affected families is some help in re-construction of their houses out of the 4 options that Jinesh had shared in the earlier post.  Some families cannot start construction now as it's not possible to construct in the affected area and they are waiting for allocation of new land. There are few families who can start construction in their current land itself.  I have asked them to find more details about the support they are getting from government in re-construction.

We have raised 7 Lakhs till now and my initial thought is that we can allocate 50K per family and directly collaborate with some hardware shops so that each family can buy building materials worth 50K from these shops.  There are few families that needs support in the education of their children. We can take care of that as well.

Please read the mail below from Jinesh, go through the list of families and let me know what you think in the comments section and we will proceed accordingly. Jinesh will be sharing more details about these families by this weekend.

Dear Antony and Team,
We had some interaction with the affected people to understand their needs and priorities. As per our earlier discussion, we were thinking to support them to buy cows to restore their daily income. Even though most of these affected families lost cattle (and cattle sheds),  their first priority is to construct a house as they are staying in rented/temporary houses. So majority of them are looking for any possible support during their house construction.
Click on the link below for the list that contains the people who lost their houses completely.
As discussed over the phone, we have 2 options to help them.

1. Transfer the support directly to their accounts (stage of construction can be insisted for the fund release)
2. Transfer the fund to hardware shops (there are reliable shops and we can try and negotiate to get some bulk deals) and  we can ask the beneficiaries to buy building materials for that amount as per their choice)
The data collection is kept in the background only. We can collect all the details after taking a confirmed decision to support them. List from panchayath is also expected for our cross verification by this week end.

Please check with  your team and let me know what you think.

Thanks,
Jinesh

  1. We can pay to the contractor or the shop directly based on the progress.

    1. yes, we will do it based on the progress....Some families are not in a position to start the construction as their land is not suitable for re-construction any more and for those, we will release it once they start

  2. We should wait for providing support for house construction until we get an idea on the support provided by government.

"There are few families that needs support in the education of their children. We can take care of that as well."

We can proceed with providing support for education asap.
