Maniyarankudy Rehabilitation | Furniture for five families (Jayaraj, Binu, Thangamma, Jaison, Maria Das)

We bought/delivered furniture for five more families this Saturday (Sep 29th, 2018).  All the five houses were in the same area and they lost everything in the same landslide that happened on August 15th.  When the relief camps were closed, some of them moved to rented rooms, some moved to the house of their relatives and some are still staying in the halls provided by Panchayat.

Out of these, Mr Jayaraj's family lost 4 of family members in the landslide including his wife and daughter. I spoke to Maria Das,  who is Jayaraj's neighbour and he is still in shock as he had witnessed the landslide and the 4 members were swept away in front of his eyes ! We also bought furniture for Maria Das.

Once again, thanks to Jinesh and his dad for collecting all the details and executing this.  A big thanks to Madhu (Madhu Vasudevan, Zurich) for transferring 49K to the shop owner's account. I have updated the excel sheet with all the details.

  1. Jayaraj K P (Auto driver) - Only Jayaraj and his son (Deva Nandhan - class V) survived the landslide. Devanandhan lost his sister, mom and grand parents in the tragic incident. When I called Jayaraj, Devanandhan picked up the phone and I didn't know what to tell the kid. Just told him to study well and I disconnected the phone :-(

   2.   Maria Das - (Construction worker) - His family is staying in a rented room (Rs 2500 per month) and he has started going to work. When I called him today (Sunday), he was at the construction site. His son has got books/uniforms from school.

3 - Thangamma Kumaran (70 year old) - Currently staying with her daughter. I couldn't speak to her.

 4) Binu PS  (Construction worker) - He and his family are currently staying in a hall provided by Panchayat (no rent). He has not started going for work yet. He said he lost all his tools along with all other stuff. I said we can probably help him in buying the tools. Will decide on that after discussing with Jinesh.

5) Jaison Paily (Farmer) - Lost everything including the 5 cows he had. His wife also got injured , but has almost recovered. He requested for a cot/bed instead of almirah and we got him that.

  1. Thanking God for this grateful life and really feeling good that we can support them in any manner even though it's just a small one over the trauma n agony they faced in life. Praying God to give them enough strength to recover in life.
