Maniyarankudy Rehabilitation | Furniture for Mr Johnson's family

It's look like the land allocation/construction of the houses of affected families is going to take more time as they don't want to start with out getting a clarity on the government support.

What the families need in the mean time is some furniture that they can use now in the temporary shelter and later on when they have their own house.

One of the family (Mr Johnson) that we shortlisted (Sl no: 3 in this list) requested for a steel shelf, study table and few chairs. I spoke to him and their situation is still pretty bad. Right now they don't have any income. They lost everything except the dress what they were wearing when the landslide happened. They got some dresses, house hold utensils , gas stove and groceries when they left the relief camp. School gave the books, bags etc for his kids (elder girl 9th standard and son is in 5th). They moved to a small room for rent (1600 rs per month) for the time being and they didn't have any furniture. We immediately agreed to help and delivered the requested furniture to Mr Joshnson's room on last Friday. You can find more details about the family in the information sheet below.  He was very happy when I called and offered our support. I have told him to save my number and call us when ever he need any help.

Big thanks to Jinesh's father who went to multiple furniture shops and negotiated before finalizing 'Idukki Home Furnishing Materials' for buying the requested items.  We have negotiated with the  shop owner and he has  agreed to give us a good deal since we are planning to do the same for other families.

Dear Antony,

Last weekend I visited the area. It looks like the government funding for the house reconstruction may take time. Yet to finish the iterations of damage assessments. ( This is the reason why panchayath is not sharing the list, which we expected last week)

All these affected people shifted to rented/temporary houses. Almost everyone lost there complete house hold items. They received some house hold items from different donors. But still they have shortage in this area too. In the event of the uncertainty regarding the house construction time frame, shall we extend support to the these people for house hold items?

I received such a request from Mr. Johnson (Sl no.3). He requested for one steel almera,  one study table for children and 4 chairs.

I propose to fix a list of house hold items and distribute to people (eg 20K). Fixed list of items will help us to do negotiate with the shops to ensure lowest pricing. So that they will be able to use it even in their temporary dwelling. Let's give the remaining(30K) amount during the time of house construction.

Let me know your opinion on this?

Thanks
Dear Antony,

Today my father personally went and checked the items requested by Mr. Johnson. Checked with different stores and "Idukki Homes" found to appropriate shop for purchasing these items. They have agreed on below price. Items have reasonably good quality.

Steel shelf - 6400 (6900 Normal Retail Price)
Study table with book shelf(Multi wood) -  4500 (4900)
Plastic chair 5×250 (280)
Total = 12150 Rounded to 12K
+ Delivery charges (actual)

So they have agreed to supply these items for 12K + Delivery charge (~500 approx)

Let me know how to proceed on this case.

Thanks
