College fees for Excillina - Garopara village (Recurring)

We started supporting this case from last June through external funding based on a request that came from Fr Augustine (Guwahati, Assam).

Excillina and her family is from Garopara village in Goalpara district , Assam.  It's a tribal belt and there's hardly any one from that community who goes for further studies even if they complete 10th or 12th , primarily because of financial problems. There are no colleges nearby and most of the girls get married at very young age as there is no scope for further studies. What I have been told is that she is the first girl from her community to pursue higher studies and hopefully she will inspire many !!

 

Her dad is a daily wage worker in a coal mine in Megahalaya and hardly there's any work as the most of the coal mines are getting shut. Her mom has some cardiac issues (had a stroke earlier) and is a home maker. Excillina did well in her 12th and showed lot of interest to study further. 

With Fr Augustine's help we managed to get her admission in Don Bosco University college, Guwahati and enrolled her for B.Com in banking and finance. First semester fees came up to 54,000 Rs /- including one time admission fee and second semester fee is coming up to 41,000/- 

Thanks to Cindu chechi & family for volunteering to take care of the whole expenses so far all by herself. 

Excillina's first semester marks are not great (57 %) as she is getting used to the new system, but has promised to get atleast 75 % going forward.
