Note:- During lock down, we are providing lunch/dinner only once in most of the months.

We are providing lunch @ Akashaparavakal on alternate Sundays since an year now. We have spent close to 1.36 lakhs so far for this, thanks to everyone for all the support. Even though the number of people are 40-45, we get food for 50-55 so that its sufficient for their dinner as well. We also have started celebrating birthday of inmates along with lunch since November 2019. We will continue this next year and I will publish the calendar for that soon.

It's been almost one year since we have started working with Akashaparavakal (Friends Of Birds Of
the Air). Just to remind everyone, they take care of 45 mentally ill women (most of them in their 50s) who were picked up from the streets.

We celebrated Joe's B'day with them this year (Jan 12th, 2019). While we were planning the lunch for the residents on his b'day, we asked Sr what they need as dessert and we were bit surprised when she
asked whether we can get a fruit (banana or orange) for each of them. That's when we realized that fruit is a luxury for them when they are struggling to feed them 3 times  a day. They don't have any servants/cooks. Cooking and all other daily chores are managed by the care takers themselves with the help of inmates who are stable. We also figured out that these kind of events are giving them a much needed break as they don't have to cook. Even though it's a very small gesture, the satisfaction and joy that you get after spending some time with them cannot be described in words. It's painful to hear their stories though.

We just have to spend 6000 -7000 Rs (85-100 $) to provide a decent non-veg meal (Veg Pulao, Chicken curry, one boiled egg,  Papad,  Raitha,  pickle and a fruit)  for 50 people !!  I feel we should do this at least a month and I have created a calendar for the same.  I can definitely help with the logistics, arranging the caterers etc. Request you to check the calendar below and block your slots if you are interested (All slots have been already booked for  2019 :-) , but we can create more than one slot per month if required).

We will try for couple of months, and then we can think of scaling it, may be by making it fortnightly if more people shows interest.
