Supporting a computer lab for children in Manipur | Sacred Heart School,Gothol

Fr. Augustine introduced this school to me during his recent missionary visit, and I had the opportunity to speak with the sisters over a video call. They are doing truly herculean work, running the school despite ongoing conflict and tension in the area, often risking their lives, just to ensure these children have a future. Their immediate need is support to set up a small computer lab. I am in the process of getting a formal quote from the local computer shop; the estimated cost per system is ₹15,000 to ₹20,000. Our group can support two systems, and I am hoping to raise funds for one or two more through individual contributions.

Hi,

I am Sr Teslin works in Sacred Heart School,Gothol (Manipur), our school is situated at the boarder area of Kuki and Meitei communities.The school began to function  in January 2023 and Wwe had 380 students. 

The Kuki community is a tribal community that mainly depends on rain-fed paddy farming and jhum cultivation for survival. Both parents work in the fields, often leaving children unattended, so we provide free tuition whenever possible. With shrinking farmland, poor soil fertility, and very limited job opportunities, nearly 14 villages in this area struggle with unstable income. Women support their families through weaving, but facilities to rear livestock are scarce. Life here remains a daily fight for survival.

The school was established in January 2023, and at that time we had 380 students. Unfortunately, due to the violence in the region, many families were forced to flee with their children. After a long struggle, we were able to return and restart the school in January 2025 with 170 students.

With great hope for our children’s future, we plan to set up a computer lab and ordered 10 computers this year. I have requested the shopkeeper to allow payment at the end of the year, trusting that we would somehow manage. Along with our Class 10 students, I also took the initiative to repaint the school to create a better learning environment.

25 children are studying completely free of cost, 9 students are being supported by a generous benefactor.

Despite our best efforts, resources remain extremely limited.

In this situation, if you are able to help our school in purchasing computers for the students, it would be an immense blessing. A computer lab will open doors to knowledge, skills, and opportunities for a generation that otherwise has very little access to the outside world.
