Even though we had officially closed the Kerala flood relief
campaign, we are still tracking all the 21 families that we helped. All
the families that we helped had lost both house and land.

Dear Antony,
Sorry for the delayed update. On this Monday I visited Mr. Santhosh's house. Let me explain the case.
Santhosh
is a resident of a Place called keshamuni in Vazhathope panchayath. He
is a labourer and helper at retreat centre. He is the only earning
member of his family.
His family consists of 2 daughters (Degree 2nd year, +2) and wife. He has no other land other than the current house's site.
His
current house is on the top of a mountain and the other side is a very
steep slope, almost like a cliff. (Please refer the video for the
details of the surroundings)
During the last year rains and
landslide, his house marginally escaped from total collapse. But a crack
has developed on the plot and the house is sitting across this crack
with minimal structural damages.
As per the inspections the crack is expected widen, not much hope that the plot will survive one more rainy season.
So
he is advised to relocate from the unsafe place. Since the existing
house is yet to collapse, he is not eligible for government aid under
the Kerala flood rehabilitation schemes.
Since
the gravity of the situation was clear to the neighbors and well
wishers, they managed to arrange him 7 cents of non patta land, which is
having vehicle access and suitable for house construction.
All
are supporting this family in their own capacity. But most of the
supporters are also having very poor financial background. But they work
with an admirable team spirit. They are trying their best to shift this
family before this rainy, season. They are constructing the house with
their best capacity. They have the confidence to complete the
construction of the walls with their own resources. Now it has reached
window level. Please refer the image of the construction site.
They
wanted to shift the family to this safe house at the earliest. On realizing the fact that they dont have resources to complete the roof
concreting, they are seeking support from public. I was approached by
one such supporter. He was asking to consider this case to provide some
support. The building under construction is around 700.sft.
It
would be a great support if we can offer some of the items for the
roofing. Please find the high level estimation for the materials for
your reference. Please let me know your opinion on this.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Roof Area : 700 sft.
Volume of concrete : 6.7 M3
Steel bars - 670 kg x 60 = Rs. 40000
Cement - (7.5 bags / M3) = 50 bags x 420 = Rs. 21000
Small stone - 200 cft - 12 K
Rock sand - 250 cft - 15 k
